Otavo
Otavo has moved to public beta testing and unlike Writely, their registration is still working! Otavo is a service where users start a quest, or better said ask a question, and then users post web links that answer or fulfills the quest in some way. It is like a social bookmarking service. The service is great if you have a question or looking for a group of sites, but you won’t find me forgetting about my del.icio.us account just yet.
Google Code
It appears that Google is going to give Sourceforge a little competition. For those of you that don’t know, Sourceforge is pretty much the only Open Source project hosting company out there. The new Google service is called Google Code project hosting or Google Code for short. Google Code didn’t appear in Google Labs which makes me wonder how many other Google goodies are being developed without the public knowledge. In the end, I am glad that a competitor to Sourceforge appeared since the Sorcefourge service constantly suffers from down time.
Linkie Winkie Interview
I was able to conduct an interview with an important member of the Linkie Winkie study. I am currently organizing and writing the article which will be made public soon. I am going to post the article in two or three segments so stay tuned and alert, for it is going to be quite interesting.
Writely - Whats Wrong?
I have been told that Writely has once again closed down registration. Apparently when you try to register for an account, it just adds you to a waiting list. I am not sure what caused Writely to close down registration but I fired off an email to them about the problem. Hopefully they will reply with some useful information. In any case, I will post any information about registration as soon as I hear about it. And for those of you who just can not wait for registrations to reopen, leave me a comment with a valid email address, your email will not show to the public, and I will fire off an invite to you. I am not sure how many invites I have so first come first serve. In any case, when I run out of invites you guys can continue to invite each other.
Writely is Now Open for Registration
Writely is now open for registration!
What is Writely?
Writely is a web service that allows users to type in a web based word processor environment. Documents are created and stored online and can be downloaded as .odt, .pdf, or .doc documents. Apart from storing and downloading documents, you can also easily display your documents as web sites. On March 9th 2005 Writely was acquired by Google and has been in private testing with a few invites here and there. Although Writely is still in beta testing, you can register and give it a try.
What makes Writely special is the fact that you can invite other users to collaborate in the creation and revision of your document. The best part of Writely’s collaborate feature is that when something is edited within the document, Writely will keep a copy of the document prior to it being edited so that you will always be able to revert to a past versions of your work as you create revisions. What is Linkie Winky?
Today at 3:50pm LinkieWinki.com crawed my feeds. So what?
Linkie Winky is a new experimental project that claims to be very altruistic, that means beneficent, and loves to be talked about. If you don’t have a blog or a website then you probably wont care about linkie winkie but if you do, then you might want to continue reading.
The linkie winkie website doesn’t say what linkie winkie exactly does but it does offer a couple of clues. First, the site has its Alexa daily traffic rank trend on the front, and only, page. Second, the linkie winkie page mentions that linkie winkie loves to be talked about. Third clue is the link back to pages that mentioned linkie winkie. From what I have observed, pages don’t have to provide a link to linkiewinkie.com, just mentioning linkie winkie should get you on the linkiewinkie.com page. I base this reasoning on this page, http://www.yooter.com/blog/index.php?s=Linkie+winkie, which mentions linkie winkie a total of 4 times but never provides a direct link to linkie winkie.
I think the whole point of the linkie winkie site is to be simply talked about. By having people talk about linkie winkie and creating links to linkiewinkie.com, the linkie winkie page gain a better Alexa rank which will in turn make the linkiewinkie.com domain VERY valuable to marketers. In turn, for your help in making linkiewinkie.com a treasure chest, your website link is displayed on the linkiewinkie.com site.
One last thing, the linkie winkie website does say that timing is important. Therefore, since linkie winkie crawled my feeds today at 3:50pm, I am going to publish this post at 3:25pm and see what happens.

Nintendo DS Web Browser & TV Tuner
Not too long ago I purchased a Nintendo DS light system. Shortly after buying the system I started to hear rumors of a web browser for the DS system. I researched the topic and found it to be true. Opera software apparently has a contract with Nintendo to develop and release a web browser for the Nintendo DS system [1].
The Nintendo DS Web Browser will use both screens for viewing web content. The bottom screen will using the stylus to select portions of the page which will then show on the top screen at a closer magnification. The DS will also be able to see a web site in its entirety using both screens at the same time. Content will be able to be entered into the site by means of the stylus. In a video demo of the Nintendo DS Web Borrower, we see a user entering Japanese characters into a web form by drawing the character into the screen.
And if surfing the Internet from the Nintendo DS isn’t exiting enough, there is word going around stating that a TV service is also planed for the Nintendo DS system. A excerpt from an article published in ds.ign.com:
Perhaps even more exciting is an accessory that converts the DS into a television. Starting in April, a service called 1seg (pronounced One Seg) will begin airing digital broadcasts for mobile devices throughout Japan. A number of cell phones capable of receiving the broadcasts have been announced, and now Nintendo is getting in on the action with the tentatively named DS Terrestrial Digital Broadcast Receiver Card. GotVoice Little Inconvenience Resolved
On July 18th of this yea I wrote an article called “Get Your Voice Mail with GotVoice“. In the article, many will remember, I explained a little inconvenience that I was having with the GotVoice service, “[…] I have to go back and manually delete dozens of voice messages from my voice mail box via my cell phone.” Well Martin Dunsmuir, from GotVoice, was kind enough to explain via a comment on the article how this little inconvenience can be solved. In the schedules section one can choose to delete saved messages off the mobile phone every Sunday night. Problem solved.
