Vconvert LogoWe have all visited video hosting sites such as YouTube and Google Videos. For many, these videos are only available at the hosting companies’ website. But now, video from these sites can be easily downloaded to your computer or mobile device (iPhone, PSP, or iPod).

Vconvert is a new service that allows users to convert video from online video hosting companies to a variety of different formats. As of this writing the following formats are supported:

  • .wmv
  • .mov
  • .mp4 for the iPhone, PSP, and iPod
  • .3gp for some mobile devices
  • .mp3
  • .flv

The service is very simple to use. Essentially, all a user would have to do is paste the video’s URL into Vconvert and press Convert and Download.

Test Run

I converted the following video from YouTube, http://youtube.com/watch?v=EwL0G9wK8j4, using Vconvert. The video, which can be seen bellow, is about 1.30 minutes long. Vconvert quickly converted the video to mp4 in 56 seconds. The video quality is about the same as from the hosting companies’ player.

The service works great and it is welcomed by user’s with mobile devices with video play back capabilities. My only suggestion for the time being is for .ogg support. :)
