Writely is now open for registration!

What is Writely?

Writely is a web service that allows users to type in a web based word processor environment. Documents are created and stored online and can be downloaded as .odt, .pdf, or .doc documents. Apart from storing and downloading documents, you can also easily display your documents as web sites. On March 9th 2005 Writely was acquired by Google and has been in private testing with a few invites here and there. Although Writely is still in beta testing, you can register and give it a try.

What makes Writely special is the fact that you can invite other users to collaborate in the creation and revision of your document. The best part of Writely’s collaborate feature is that when something is edited within the document, Writely will keep a copy of the document prior to it being edited so that you will always be able to revert to a past versions of your work as you create revisions. Seems like Writely has already stopped their public registrations phase and put the old site back online, saying that you can only sign up for a wait list.
