What is Linkie Winky?
Today at 3:50pm LinkieWinki.com crawed my feeds. So what?
Linkie Winky is a new experimental project that claims to be very altruistic, that means beneficent, and loves to be talked about. If you don’t have a blog or a website then you probably wont care about linkie winkie but if you do, then you might want to continue reading.
The linkie winkie website doesn’t say what linkie winkie exactly does but it does offer a couple of clues. First, the site has its Alexa daily traffic rank trend on the front, and only, page. Second, the linkie winkie page mentions that linkie winkie loves to be talked about. Third clue is the link back to pages that mentioned linkie winkie. From what I have observed, pages don’t have to provide a link to linkiewinkie.com, just mentioning linkie winkie should get you on the linkiewinkie.com page. I base this reasoning on this page, http://www.yooter.com/blog/index.php?s=Linkie+winkie, which mentions linkie winkie a total of 4 times but never provides a direct link to linkie winkie.
I think the whole point of the linkie winkie site is to be simply talked about. By having people talk about linkie winkie and creating links to linkiewinkie.com, the linkie winkie page gain a better Alexa rank which will in turn make the linkiewinkie.com domain VERY valuable to marketers. In turn, for your help in making linkiewinkie.com a treasure chest, your website link is displayed on the linkiewinkie.com site.
One last thing, the linkie winkie website does say that timing is important. Therefore, since linkie winkie crawled my feeds today at 3:50pm, I am going to publish this post at 3:25pm and see what happens.

I just checked my StatCounter stats and I saw that I had a few hits coming from LW. I checked their site and they have a link to my post on it.
Pretty cool considering that I can use all the traffic I get!
July 22nd, 2006 at 6:52 pm
Nice. How much traffic are you receiving?
So how do you think it works Pink?
July 23rd, 2006 at 10:30 am
Hey, now they’ve added you to their main link! So I guess patience and giving them a link, and maybe trackbacks to other people who mention LW Pretty cool.
I probably got an extra 50 hits from it, which is great since I don’t get than many in a day generally!

Sounds good. I am going to experiment a little further by dropping the words linkie winkie at the bottom of my posts. And for the record, linkiewinkie crawled my feeds today at 5:49:07am est time.
By the way, I have a feeling that when linkie winkie craws your feeds, it only links you if the most resent post has the words linkie winkie in it.

LinkieWinkie antwoordt snel…
July 24th, 2006 at 10:01 am
a translation of the above from Dutch to English using Babel fish reads:
LinkieWinkie answer rapidly…
LinkieWinkie as current vuurtje \’ said wij:\”Onze loose research journalist, however, even someone eposteltje send to inform it, said hij.\”Welnu that he has meanwhile done. To be text sounded, briefly but strongly…

The article http://www.opinieleiders.nl/techlog/pivot/entry.php?id=3189
mentions my article about linkie winkie and it appears that someone within the linkie winkie project commented on my assumptions.

Sorry, for some reason the URL didn’t come through — although I found out the purpose of Linkie Winkie as well as who’s behind it.
But I thought it would be fun to play with the Linkie Winkie crawler a bit here: Linkie Winkie Tracker — I’ll be tracking the metrics to see what hits when. Started the thing at 2 pm, MST.
July 28th, 2006 at 3:06 pm
Dang. Sorry. For some reason URLs seem to have hit or miss for me in your comments — anyway, take a look at http://www.tribbleagency.com/?p=25 to solve the “mystery”.

Very soon I will publish an interview I had with someone in the linkie winkiw project, so stay tuned.

I think if I leave comments to my link to linkiewinkie it will get noticed faster. They are probably either subscribing to Google notifications or something like that. Anyway, here is the linkie to my winkie to linkiewinkie:
Wink Wink.
By the way, I found your site from LinkieWinkie. You’re listed. But now that I’m here, I think I’ll have a look around…
