Flock: The next Firefox?

June 20th, 2006 | Joel | Uncategorized

Flock is a new web browser that is taking the Internet by storm. Flock is based on Mozzila’s Firefox [1] and has been described as the first popular social web browser of its kind. Flock makes it easier for users to interact with social networks by incorporating many useful tools into the browser. Tools such as the Photobar allow users of Flickr or Photobucket to easily upload images and see images in there account. Also, a built in editor makes it easy to post blogs to your favorate blog platform.

Last week the Flock developers released Flock 0.7. It should be noted that Flock is still in beta testing and might not perform as we might expect it to.

Some of the highlights of Flock 0.7:

• The Photobar now supports resizing and cropping of images before they are uploaded to Flickr or Photobucket.
• The new MyNews tool allows you to subscribe to RSS feeds and as an added bonus, Flock will alert you when new articles are published and allows you to save particular articles for future reference.
• The Mozzila editor is now used as the editor in Flock in order to better support various blogging platforms.

You can read more about these and other features new to Flock 0.7 at the Flock release notes site.
