France on Apple’s iPod

March 27th, 2006 | Joel | Technology

The United Kingdom has recently gotten tough on Microsoft, accusing the software giant of violating agreements made between the government and Microsoft to release software documentation on the the Windows operating system. The documentation is to let competitors create hardware and software that works with the Windows system. Now we see France tightening the grip around Apple, demanding that iTunes and iPods be open to competitors. If Apple does not comply with France, France has threaten to ban the sell of iPods in the country.

This is good new for consumers. If Apple does comply, it would mean that people will have a real option between what software they choose to use with their iPods. People shouldn’t be told what software they can or can not use. I want to be able to use what ever software package I want with my new hardware with out a problem. Hopefully like thinking would also occur here in the United States.
